Thassos wins 1st place at the World Travel Awards 2025 as Greece’s Leading Authentic Island Destination 2025

At a world-class ceremony held on 22 October 2025 in Sardinia, the Mayor of Thassos, Mr Eleftherios Kyriakidis, together with the official delegation of the Municipality, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism and President of the Thassos Tourism Organisation, Mr Ioannis Markianos, the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mr Christodoulos Topsidis, and the Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism, Mr Panagiotis Archontis, received the award, representing the island on the international stage of the tourism industry. At an event that brought together leading representatives of the global tourism community, Thassos was presented as an authentic and hospitable destination, winning admiration for its natural beauty and the authentic Greek island experience it offers its visitors.

The award, which resulted from an international vote by the public and tourism professionals, confirms the momentum and recognition that Thassos has gained in recent years through targeted outreach, cooperation and promotional activities. This distinction strengthens the position of Thassos on the national tourism map as an authentic destination that attracts an ever-growing number of visitors for the unique experience it offers.

The recognition of Thassos as “Greece's Leading Authentic Island Destination” at the World Travel Awards is the result of a combined effort by the Municipality, tourism professionals, the local community and the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, which in recent years have been investing systematically in showcasing the island as an authentic and sustainable destination. The candidacy of Thassos was based on initiatives to highlight local identity, the hospitality experience and the preservation of its natural and cultural wealth, elements that make the island an outstanding example on the Greek island map.

With this international recognition, Thassos strengthens its position as an island of authentic experience and sustainable tourism in the Aegean.
